Glossary
Definitions of key terms used in XpressInspect and this documentation.
- Assignment An inspection job allocated to an inspector by an administrator. Appears in the inspector's queue.
- Checklist The structured set of inspection items the inspector must evaluate, organized by section and specific to the inspection type.
- Compliance Deadline The date by which a flagged violation must be corrected by the property owner or tenant.
- Deficiency A failed checklist item that requires repair or corrective action but does not rise to the level of a formal violation notice.
- HQS Housing Quality Standards — a federal inspection standard used in HUD's Housing Choice Voucher program.
- Inspection Type The category of inspection being performed, which determines which checklist sections are shown. Common types include Annual, Move-In, Move-Out, and Special.
- Inspector A credentialed individual assigned to conduct property inspections and submit reports through XpressInspect.
- N/A (Not Applicable) A checklist response indicating that the item does not apply to the property or inspection type being conducted.
- OAC (Origin Access Control) An AWS CloudFront security mechanism that restricts S3 bucket access so content is only served through CloudFront, not directly from S3.
- Queue The list of inspections currently assigned to an inspector, visible from the Dashboard.
- Report The completed document produced by an inspection, containing all findings, photos, violations, and notes. Final reports are exported as signed PDFs.
- Returned A report status indicating the administrator has reviewed a submission and sent it back to the inspector for revisions.
- Severity Level A classification of how serious a failed finding is: Minor, Moderate, Major, or Critical.
- Tenant Admin An organizational user who manages inspector assignments, reviews submitted reports, and configures account settings.
- UPCS Uniform Physical Condition Standards — a HUD inspection protocol used for public housing and multifamily properties.
- Violation A failed finding that has been escalated to require a formal notice, typically with a regulatory code and compliance deadline attached.
- Violation Code A regulatory or policy code assigned to a formal violation, drawn from a list configured by the organization.
